What Happened?
What Happened?
What happened to the sweet innocence of youth?
Where did it go – that newly-opened bloom?
The trust we had has withered and died
And the faith we felt, eroded away with the sands of time.
Would that we could return to those simple years,
Would that we could go back to how we were…
But alas the tears we shed have dried
And our hearts have turned to stone.

WOW adee, you sure captured my mind this morning.
Why does life make us so … jaded?… I hate that side of myself and try to suffocate it…
That my dear is one lovely poem…though I seriously doubt that it completes you… continue…Please…there’s so much more to this …and so much more to you…
Not that the Poem itself is not complete, for someone out there crying…but for you me dear …not good enough, cause you are not through trying…
God Bless you
Love you in JESUS the Christ.. Savior of all mankind…
Paul
Why is it that sometimes writing poetry is like giving birth? Yeeeogh! God Bless you Paul.
So thought provoking Adee, I love the last line….so very true. Thanks for this my friend x
Thanks so much Amanda. xxx
ouch… a painful read…the desire to go back but things have changed…then best to forge ahead…nice write…
In some ways you’re right, Brian, but it’s sometimes hard to accept that we have changed.
Life happened, and with it heartache. I don’t think our hearts have turned to stone; sometimes we just develop a hard outer as protection.
You’re right, Halfy, we (most of us) develop an outer shell to protect ourselves – and, of course, our masks! Dreadful to have to do this though, but trust has been broken.
smart thoughts.
lovely done!
Thank you Jingle!
In my mind I’m still the wide-eyed 16 year old, but with the wisdom that years bring I worry about that person…
That’s exactly it, Lyndatjie, we shouldn’t have to worry! Thanks for your input.
