MATRICIDE
MATRICIDE
Which of us would not cower
At the thought of killing his mother?
Yet here we are.
We think nothing of murdering
Our mother Earth
Who has nurtured,
Nourished and clothed us.
Over the centuries
Man has increased in intellect
Until it became possible for him
To destroy his world, the planet Earth,
Together with all who depend on her
And love her as a mother.
Intelligence and common sense
Are not synonymous.
Man has sacrificed his common sense
On the altar of his intelligence
In his search for dominance.
Encarta Dictionary: MATRICIDE
Killing of own mother.
The act of murdering your own mother.

Unbelievable ! Wolves and owls. See my post 3/29/11. PS I do not mean to promote myself on your blog so delete me after you check it out.
Bwahahaha, Carl. Excellent post! You are so talented that it’s a pleasure to let you promote yourself. 8)
so true, we rape our mother earth, thinking nothing of waht we are doing
Mankind is certainly his own worst enemy, Sidey.
Wonderful reminder, Denise. Especially enjoyed:
Man has sacrificed his common sense
On the altar of his intelligence
In his search for dominance.
Thanks, Nancy. What a pity it’s true.
Brilliant…we stoop so low, and choose not to see so much.
If we allowed ourselves to see more of the implications of our handiwork, would it make a difference?
Hard-hitting and well said, Adeeyoyo. BB
Thanks, Bb. I hope there’s Someone out there to rescue us.
Good one adeeyoyo. We’ve gone too far, that’s for sure – and still people are hiding their heads in the sand and don’t want to do anything to change the situation – progress at any cost, and the cost will be the demise of the human race and many other animals and plants – I’m sure the planet will remain but with a completely different ecosystem (probably cockroaches will be the only remaining life form that will be recognisable).
That’s just it, Gabe. The rise and fall of mankind – overrun by cockroaches, bwahahaha. If I don’t laugh I will cry…
“Intelligence and common sense
Are not synonymous”
You got that right, adee, profound poem!
Thanks, Cindy. The seed for this post came from Sidey’s post, Doing the thinking, on 6 April.

strong words but so true…ugh…
Thanks, Brian, they are true, unfortunately. Not a good day here… working on my new post and power went off twice in half an hour!
With all the evidence of this we are faced with everyday, you wouldn’t think we would need a piece of writing to remind us of our sins against our mother…but we do! It’s amazing how capable we are of turning away from the obvious when it doesn’t suit or needs. You have delivered a powerful piece, that will serve as a forceful reminder for all who read. I thank you, and your Mother thanks you.
Thank you, Natasha, for reading my post. Unfortunately most of us only see what we want to see…
I could cry reading this because we are killing our mother and often it seems like no one cares. Your wonderful, powerful poem hs reminded me that many people out in the wide world feel the same way as I do. Hopefully, we can all make a difference….
Let us hope that we grow in numbers and are able to make a difference, Selma. I saw they were squabbling again at the UN.
