Promises

.

Clouds as light as air

Sail across the sky,

Voyagers of discovery

As in years gone by.

.

Whispers of pink appear,

Murmurs of lilac too,

Gold and silver highlights,

Lowlights of purplish-blue.

.

Farewell you travellers

Way up on high, adieu;

I wish you a safe journey,

As you fade into the blue.

.

NB – One of my favourite poets is back here.  Enjoy!

Hope

.

Who would have dreamt that I would find

A love like yours, so sweet and kind,

As gentle as the morning rays,

I bask in the sunlight of your gaze.

.

The walls I built you’re taking down,

And my defences are breaking down.

For twenty years I’ve stood alone –

Twenty years all on my own.

.

And now I feel there’s time for us,

If we can just restore my trust

With faith and hope and honesty

I don’t need any guarantee

Don’t let Deprivation make you FAT

.

A little more meat and mustard

And go easy with the custard

All these years of living lean

Have helped me to appreciate

That I must not inflate

Dusk in Africa

.

The calm of the jungle at dusk,

The soft sounds of creatures

Returning from the waterhole, spent:

Crackling branches, bodies brushing

Against dry bushes as they went.

.

Silence descended slowly as night fell.

We sat relaxed around the fire,

At ease in the surrounding peace,

Sipping our after-dinner drinks

And dreaming of the morrow.

.

ROAR!

RROOAARR!  The second, a demanding bellow

Then a series of grunts to follow:

GRUNT, GRUNT, grunt, grunt, g r u n t…

Fading slowly until dead…

Silence dropped heavily back in the hollow

And we all retreated to bed.

Give and Take

.

As the rosebud slowly opens

In the warm rays of the sun

She proudly displays

To the admiring gaze

Of everyone looking on

.

But the kindly sun who gave her life

Is the self-same sun to cause her death

And her rich colour wanes

While he sucks dry her veins

Until she exhales her last breath

The Edge

A Mute Swan spreads its wings

.

Standing on the edge of the world

i look out into the void

one move from me

and i’ll be history

so

i unfurl my wings

and gently

glide

Black Velvet *New

.

In the black velvet night

Stars look ultra bright

No moon in the sky

Just you and I

Stand

Hand-in-hand

Under the canopy of light

Facing t’wards the east

Waiting

For the first rays of the sun

A new day has begun

A new world still to come

.

Must have been a ‘bug’ – Sorry!

My Head, My Brain, My Mind

.

My head says one thing,

But I can’t make up my mind.

My brain tells me, ‘No’,

But my mind cannot decide.

.

There is no unity between the three,

They all seem doomed to disagree.

‘Mind over matter’, or so the saying goes,

So, what’s the matter with my mind?

.

‘Out of sight, out of mind’ is another,

So tell me, my brother,

Is it possible to leave my mind behind

And thus be out of my mind?

.

I can lose my mind or lose my head

But if I lost my brain, I would be dead.

Renewal

.

I feel a clear fresh wind

Blowing through my brain

Sweeping out the cobwebs

So I can live again

.

I feel a clear fresh wind

Dusting out my mind

Vacuuming up bad mem’ries

And leaving good behind

.

Night

.

Silence is broken

Torn open

By the hoot

Of a solitary owl

And the quarter moon

Exposed

Unclothed

Slides

Tries to hide

Behind a cloud

In the sky

.
