Bees Don’t Sting…
.
Bees don’t sting –
for no-thing
but to protect them-
selves or the queen
they know if they do
sting you or i
they will surely die
committing suicide
kami-kaze, hara–kiri
and there’s the sting in the ta(i)le!

THE CELEBRATION
I am reposting this, my second poem, to draw attention to the following reblog from Maxi’s Comments. I am doing this because I see there is no ‘like’ feature and nor are there any tags to attract readers.
THE CELEBRATION
.
Engrossed in a wild celebration of life,
Laughing and shouting, heads back to drink,
As the bottle is passed from one to another,
Joyous excitement with no time to think.
.
Trees and shrubs and fences flash by,
A group on the corner takes shape and is gone.
Time stops for a moment that feels like a year.
The driver, in shock, cries, “What have I done?”
.
How fast a life changes, in the blink of an eye.
How quickly a spark can be smothered and die.
How often we warn our loved ones, “Take care.”
Not knowing the danger that’s lurking out there.

Ghosts
.
Ghosts and ghouls
Send shivers and chills
Up my spine
As I lie supine
On my bed of memories
Memories…
Cemeteries…
Semi-trees…
Buried bones in their new homes
Limbs and branches
Comrades in arms
Ha Ha
Who goes there
Friend or foe
ALLies

The Soft Kiss
.
The soft kiss of rain
On cracked, arid earth
Awakens hormones
Releases pheromones
Igniting life
Inciting breath
And ultimately death

Spring
.
Spring
.
Life stirs after winter’s death,
Its long, cold sleep thru the snow and sleet,
Bare twigs and dead sticks
Tingle with awakening
And new life shows its nose
Gingerly testing before resurrecting;
A time of marvels and miracles
Where life lives and death dies
Under lightening skies.

Give and Take
.
As the rosebud slowly opens
In the warm rays of the sun
She proudly displays
To the admiring gaze
Of everyone looking on
.
But the kindly sun who gave her life
Is the self-same sun to cause her death
And her rich colour wanes
While he sucks dry her veins
Until she exhales her last breath

Never Been
~
Slate wiped clean
As if she’d never been
Here today and gone tomorrow
Went home to die
Sweet goodbye
Kin arrived
To clear her flat
How ‘bout that
Truck left
Precious things
Piled up high
Teetering towards the sky

Waiting…
.
Large glass double doors
Sun stopped outside
L-shaped room, chair-lined
‘You can’t sit there’
Words rang loud and clear
I looked for an upright chair
Most were bottomless pits
Traps for the unaware
People dressed in Sunday best
I recognised one or two
Some of the rest were new
Inmates – how ‘they’ hated the word
Residents is what ‘they’ preferred
Like animals, accepting fate
Tame, meek, all submission
Absolutely no assertion
Who remembers they are there
Perhaps Death will be the one
Sent to remind them
Of what they forgot

Birth Pangs
~
I birth my poetry
To the music in my head
Whistling the tune
Between my teeth
Singing the words
Under my breath
‘Cause losing the thread
Would be the dance of death

Goodbye…
.
Goodbye, dear friend, goodbye
The struggle is done
God reached down his hand
And fetched you home
We were as sisters, you and I
Recognised each other
From years gone by
I knew you and you knew me
Before time and pre history
.
