Earth Today
.
Our earth ails, pales
deforestation rules –
trees ripped from the soil
while the desert encroaches
inch by scorched inch
leaving space in the race
for man-made rocks, structures
to house, plots to feed
ever-expanding populations
ugly erections pumping thick
black smoke into the air –
the air that we breathe –
ban cigarettes, but leave
toxic contaminants from exhausts
from chimneys made ever higher
sending pollution into space
ha! pretending that there’s
a difference in quality
and what goes up stays up
never comes down in air or rain
to be seen or breathed
again…

House of Cards
.
We build ourselves a house of cards
Wherein we lock our treasure
For good measure.
But come the wind and rain
(a hurricane),
or when the earth begins to shake
(an earth-quake),
Our house of cards comes tumbling.down
And what have we but rubble for our trouble.

BLIND DRUNK
.
tyres screech
white lines flash
oh god
hit a robot
big shot
never mind
cross their palm
cops are blind
empty street
riding the night
on the right
no – the wrong
side
nightmare ride
cowering in back
boozer… loser
boozer… loser
mantra
in my head
.

Anticipation
Sidey’s Weekend Theme – 04.11.2011: Anticipation
Anticipation
~
I felt the excitement of anticipation.
We were on the threshold of innovation,
About to meet aliens from a faraway nation,
Intelligent life from across the universe,
Intergalactic visitors with whom to converse,
Hold discussions and exchange information,
How much I looked forward to our communication
Prior to their elimination.

FOOTPRINTS
Sidey’s Weekend Theme: 30.09.2011 - Footprints
…
When we’ve turned the world to dust,
Trampled the life beneath our feet,
We will be judged in history
By our footprints, plain to see.

THE WIND
THE WIND
From the gentlest breeze,
Tickling the flower petals
And the long grass seeds,
To a full blown hurricane,
Venting its anger in a destructive path,
A swathe of devastation from whence it came
Until, at last,
Energy spent,
It
Subsides,
Tame as a lion,
Engorged,
Lolling in the shade,
Asleep.

Evil’s Strength
Evil’s Strength
We live in an age of evil,
Of wasted lives and suffering,
Of devastation of our earth,
Caused by selfishness and greed.
Where evil appears more powerful than good,
More compelling than the ‘Gentle Jesus’ fraternity
Because they stoop fearlessly without limitations,
Without reins to hold them back.
Hell and damnation hold no inhibitions;
The present is all there is to them.
Gather together all who live in the light,
Inhabitants of the earth,
Citizens of the world,
Do not allow the sun to be devoured by the night.

MATRICIDE
MATRICIDE
Which of us would not cower
At the thought of killing his mother?
Yet here we are.
We think nothing of murdering
Our mother Earth
Who has nurtured,
Nourished and clothed us.
Over the centuries
Man has increased in intellect
Until it became possible for him
To destroy his world, the planet Earth,
Together with all who depend on her
And love her as a mother.
Intelligence and common sense
Are not synonymous.
Man has sacrificed his common sense
On the altar of his intelligence
In his search for dominance.
Encarta Dictionary: MATRICIDE
Killing of own mother.
The act of murdering your own mother.

Devastation in Northern Japan
Devastation in
Northern Japan
~~~
A landscape strewn
Across the page of time
Images frozen in my mind
Deadly destruction swept
Unchecked
By puny man
Untold lives lost
Forever in this second holocaust
~~~
Encarta Dictionary: holocaust
Wholesale or mass destruction, especially of human life.

An Apology to Mother Earth
An Apology to Mother Earth
~
We have failed you,
Mother Earth,
And continue on
This path of destruction
Despite warnings
And calamities.
Blindly, we refuse to change,
Thinking we have
All the time in the world
To make sacrifices for you.
We have emptied your coffers,
Dried up your waters,
Desiccated your forests.
We think we are gods
Who will live forever
After you are dead.
