I write what I feel…

The Choice

The Choice

She sat at a table in the corner café
Sipping her latté, a thousand miles away.
She had to make a choice – the hardest in her life –
To live alone in peace or continue with the farce.

Who would have thought it would end like this?
Twenty years together, with never a trace
Of duplicity or treachery, deceit or betrayal,
Their future was assured and their marriage could not fail.

Who would have thought it would fall apart?
Nothing is certain in matters of the heart.
The thrill of young love gives a new lease in life
And this, with all the flattery, is hard to resist.

She must be brave and make a new start.
She must be strong and protect her heart.
She has to accept she is on her own;
She has no choice but to continue alone.

  1. Twenty years! Bastard…

  2. Well written. The sad thing about this is that there are more relationships like this than we care to admit. Thank you for visiting my blog!

  3. This burns my nose hair! Selfish pig!
(oops sorry- small tantrum there from my side)

  4. 20 years? A mid-life crisis 😦

    • Actually 22 years, but who’s counting! I don’t know if a mid-life crisis isn’t just an excuse. I do know that he had a very bad inferiority complex from childhood, so I think it was his ego that needed feeding, lol.

  5. So sorry to hear this. You will be

  6. Tragic situation – but beautiful writing.
