Awakening
eyelids heavy with sleep
hard to escape the shadows
and rise above the deep
numbing paralysis of brain and limbs
swimming up and upwards
through layers of darkness
as if going backwards
and not forwards in time
struggling for breath
for air through the dark
cloying mists of death
fighting free from the matrix
let me go mare of my dreams
we’ll meet again in the moonlight
undo the reins and set me free
and we can ride again tonight

I know that feeling… I love the last stanza especially – it’s lovely and dreamy, romantic in the way of dreams. Lovely, did I say that? 🙂

Thank you, Cindy! That word first cropped up in my work, then of course the movie, so I knew I’d find a use for it eventually in poetry too!

Thanks Brian, and happy Monday to you too, my friend! If I could, I would love to put pictures of wild animals on all the walls in all the rooms of my house, lol!

I was not really sure what it meant? was it about nightmares?
I am dense sometimes.

Hi Otin, I love to leave the interpretation open to the reader… for instance when I started writing this one it was going to be about a nightmare, then when I got towards the end it sort of wrote itself so that you could choose to see whatever you want. Poetry can be weird sometimes, lol! You aren’t dense at all… thanks for the comment – I appreciate it.

I used to do that too, Betsy, but then it got too complicated for me. Now I think it is one’s subconscious mind trying to make sense of parts of one’s life, mostly. 😀 I love the pic too!

My sentiments exactly adeeyoyo! nothing makes me feel more sure of this than when I what a foreign family talking to each other…everyone has similar problems no matter where they are from and its comforting in a way to know were all the same.

I’m sorry adeeyoyo I was meaning to comment on “The Book Worm” and I hit the wrong comment button but it turned out to be a treat… I find myself constantly trying to wake up from a hard sleep. I know this feeling!
