Adeeyoyo's Blog

I write what I feel…

Banksia roses,
my mother’s much-beloved,
perfect pink buds, fading to white,
clusters of delicate blooms.

Searching the internet today
I could find reference to only
white and yellow Lady Banks
whereas ours are pink.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  1. I’ve never seen a pink one.

I had a pair of huge climbing pale pink roses like that, with large clusters of the roses about that colour, but they were bigger than the banksias

Have you tried growing more from cuttings? I’d love to try that

    • I do want to try propagating them sometime. I have two which I bought locally quite a few years ago. I was actually wanting to buy some old fashioned briar roses, but do you know the nurseries didn’t know what I was talking about, so I bought the banksias instead.

  2. It is just so beautiful Adee…how I miss the SA flowers…totally no comparison. Happy day my friend xx

  3. Those are the largest, fluffiest roses! I bet they smell just heavenly!

    • That just goes to show how misleading photo’s can be… They are actually smaller than normal roses – about ½ the size at most – like miniature roses! And hardly any thorns too.

  4. …stunning…”baby colours”….or even “virginial bridal colours”…and one can do cuttingslate winter….and lay them a third of the cutting deep in mud to root…a little hormone powder helps..
