An Apology to Mother Earth
~
We have failed you,
Mother Earth,
And continue on
This path of destruction
Despite warnings
And calamities.
Blindly, we refuse to change,
Thinking we have
All the time in the world
To make sacrifices for you.
We have emptied your coffers,
Dried up your waters,
Desiccated your forests.
We think we are gods
Who will live forever
After you are dead.

We think we are gods

After you are dead.
Sounds pretty stupid when you put it that way 😦 – sounds like we need our collective head examined…
Great post.

Our generation and our parents’ generation have a lot to feel guilty about harming Mother Earth. Luckily the current teens and younger kids are much more aware and ‘green’, so I’m optimistic about Mother Nature being healed; maybe not completely, but to a large degree.

It is nice to be optimistic and I hope you’re right, Halfie. The thing is that young people are idealistic, but become jaded and materialistic as they get older.

That’s right – and the longer it’s left the more it’s going to cost and the longer it will take… We see small ‘half-hearted’ attempts here and there, but nothing meaningful at all!

I just don’t know when our leaders are ever going to wake up… It seems money is the only voice they hear!

I was really hoping Al Gore would start a strong movement to deal with it.

I recently read the book ‘Collapse’ by Jared Diamond. You have summed up his 500 pages in 16 lines. Excellent.

Can you imagine – a mass evacuation, haha! And how many thousands of years before we have the know-how to do this.
I find I can get most of the illustrations from the free Photobucket.com and they seem to have such a variety too!

hi adeeyoyo,
what a gem! i am mostly drawn to nature poems. i felt strongly about this one of a kind apology to mother earth. for this cause, we are united in gathering our voices to save our planet from its imminent destruction. i still believe, we can still change the odds for the better. we should not lose hope.
have a blessed weekend.
