I write what I feel…

police brutality Pictures, Images and Photos

Shouting, overtaken by screams of terror and fear,
Rip through the air,
Destroying the peaceful atmosphere.

Hands clutching to find purchase
To aid and evade
The inevitable.

Bleeding fingers being slammed in the canopy door
Over and over.
Don’t be upset – they are not like us.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  1. Graphic, scary – and true.

  2. So real in so many situations. How ‘the others’ get abused

  3. Amen, Amen, thank God they are not like us…Ouch…that door hurt…Us and them Us and them.. Open the eyes Lord…to the general puppets, before we starve to death on bread and circus indulgences from the system.

Sorry…just rambling as usual….you Go Girl
    Love your poetry
    Always did

  4. This must be the incident you were referring to when I wrote about the police. Good to write about these things. Most people are capable of brutalities given the right circumstances – they did an experiment where students were given uniforms and dark glasses and were ‘guards’ and in the end they were doing horrible things to the ‘prisoners’ (they had anonymity and power – a dangerous combination).

  5. You capture the moment beautifully Denise. Pity we see it happening over and over again.

  6. Very brutal…well said!

  7. whew ripped from todays head lines with all the unrest around the world…

    • I can’t bear to see the violence all over the world. When will we learn that we have more in common than that which divides us? Unfortunately violence sometimes seems to be the only way to effect change though.

  8. History repeating over and over, Adeeyoyo. I always wonder how good men come to do evil but I suppose one does not know until in that situation (hopefully, never!) “Don’t be upset – they are not like us.” is it in a nutshell, really – we comfort ourselves with these self-deluding thoughts
