DRIFTWOOD

He walked the street in his bare feet,
Browned by the sun,
Sanded smooth by the wind,
Weathered as driftwood
Cast out by the elements.
He walked alone
And humanity passed by
On the other side.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  2. People do not often notice others in this way often they go unnoticed and they are easily and tragically forgotten, Always keep these people in mind and your heart will always have some warmth even on the coldest day! Visiting you warms my heart and I am sorry it hasn’t been more but I have been very busy these days. Peace be with you!

    • Yes, we could do so much better, Brian. I have always adored driftwood. This particular picture lends itself to letting the imagination run free…

  7. Love that piece of driftwood. It looks like an animal with front paw outstretched.
