The Key to my Heart

You broke my trust
When you carelessly lost
The key to my heart.
It is irreplaceable,
You are irresponsible,
And there is no replica available.

If, over time,
I am able to find
A duplicate door,
Will my heart ever thaw?
Will I find a guarantor
To keep it safe for evermore?

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  5. I like the metaphor of a duplicate door but I think you might be better off with a new door if the old one is so unreliable πŸ™‚

  7. I love the rythym of the close rhymes in the last 3 lines of both stanzas – they give a suitably imploring quality to the words – nice, Adeeyoyo

  8. I like the image of the door in the heart. That’s what it feels like when a heart is broken – it is as if a door closes. Good one.

  9. Cool poem πŸ™‚ I’d say there are plenty of doors and keys around – try as many as you can – haha.
