I write what I feel…

Riding the jagged edge of health,
Evading the perilous precipice,
Towards peace and tranquillity;
No longer leaking strength,
Cut like a razor, sawed like a grater,
Regenerating and replenishing,
Restoring the energy of life.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  1. Good health to you my friend

  2. Upwards from here on, adee!

  3. That says it ALL, Denise! It is beautifully crafted – I love the alliteration, which is so appropriate to the situation as days seem to go on and on, just like sounds. I love this poem. You obviously have your head together if your leg is not completely there yet!

Keep on keeping on, Denise! You are thought of and prayed for daily!

  4. This reads and sounds extremely well.

Just one suggestion – maybe, because ‘precipitous presipice’ is rather a pleonasm, ‘perilous’?

    • I think you’re right, Col, I wanted to use ‘precipitous’ meaning ‘threatening’ but maybe I was wrong! Thanks for the advice. I’m glad you liked it. 😀

  5. Smooth sailing from here on out!

  6. Do you know Denise, I am feeling the relief, as I am sure you are, at your growing freedom. Can you turn over to sleep with your released leg?

A wonderful poem of relief. Thank you

  7. So glad you are heading for recovery my friend.
This poem could have been written for me today!

  8. Such a relief when it begins to return to something like normal! A lovely window on how things are right now for you, Denise.

  9. The image of no longer leaking strength is such a powerful one. You have been through so much and have kept on writing and inspiring us all the entire time. I don’t know how you’ve done it. Wishing you very well during your recovery!

  10. Lovely alliteration. So glad that you’ll be back on your feet (and able to turn over) on Monday!

    • I can’t wait, Nancy. Physiotherapist coming to see me on Tuesday to work out a schedule. I don’t think it will take very long to get back to normal… It had better not, but I’m sure I can do a lot on my own.

  11. Nicely done – jagged and perilous are such evocative words – *shudder*

I admire your strength of spirit in such extreme circumstances – best wishes for next week 🙂
