Two Grey Heads
Two grey heads
Engrossed in conversation
Nothing as serious
As the state of the nation
Listening intently
As the other spoke
Waiting politely
For her turn to talk
From recipes and knitting
The scope of interest ranged
And ideas of all kinds
Were considered and exchanged
But I had to hide a smile
As I listened all the while
Because it was quite comic
That each was conversing
On an unrelated topic

Since it is only a few years since my mother and June’s mother died, and they both spent some time in each others’ company, I can really identify with your beautiful word picture, Denise
Lovely.

I have had this in mind for a week or so, but didn’t think I could do justice to the delicate nature of it.

The idea of two people being on different planes is a bit sad, though.
Our Mothers were always switched on, thank God, and their conversation was coherent.
But I loved the imagery, Denise.

I don’t want you to misunderstand me, John. Their problem is simply that they sometimes misinterpret what the other is saying because they are hard of hearing. I have had conversations with each of them where there is no misunderstanding for the greater part as each is capable of lip reading provided that one enunciates clearly and only speaks when the other is looking directly at one. The problem occurs when one or other looks away and doesn’t pay attention. I would like to suggest hearing aids as I would hate either of them to withdraw from socialising with those around them. Thanks for querying this, John.

Loved it . . . I’ve had that experience talking to the gray heads in my life. 😀
Hope you get your brace soon . . . so you can get back up on your feet.

They can be quite hilarious, but also very inspiring, Nancy. Should get brace on Wed 3rd, but at the moment am struggling to get the leg mobile after 16 weeks of immobility. Last couple of days went well, but today leg is virtually paralysed!

Hilarious – reminds me of family dinners – haha – my brother never seemed to be listening to what we were saying, and would butt in with something totally unrelated. Good one adeeyoyo.
