Eyes Are All
Eyes are all
Mirrors of the soul
Guilt or innocence
Joy or sorrow
Weeping tears of hope
For tomorrow…

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

Nice, Denise.
You were right about poem length not being important.
This one is lovely.

Thank you John. Some of the best poems I’ve seen are very short but it is a matter of personal taste, I think.

Perhaps we are only seeing the world behind our eyes when we look to another’s?

So true. Eyes are also the poet’s friend. So many poems have been written on the messages of they eyes. We depend on them to see and to recognize those we know. Most of the brain’s facial recognition is focused on and around the eyes. They will never lose their allure.

‘…to recognize those we know.’ This is so true. Sometimes we meet people and feel as if we have known them all our lives!

You can tell a lot from a person’s eyes, and even with animals. Eyes can speak volumes; they are truly the mirror to the soul.

Fantastic. When people smile and the smile doesn’t reach their eyes I worry. I don’t think you can trust people like that. Great poem!

It is perhaps easy to contain one’s emotion but it is hard to conceal it without spilling through the eyes.
