~~~
The candle flame flickers
And life falters
Until it steadies
And the balance alters.
~~~
They cannot exist jointly,
The flame and the breeze,
Live in harmony,
Or, indeed, be at ease.
~~~
One must give way to the other,
The sturdier leads the frailer,
A law of life since time arose,
The stronger rules the weaker.
The candle flame is a great metaphor for the human life, but not the human soul. When all the candles have gone out, and none are left to relight them, the breeze blows on.
Yes, life has been extinguished, but the soul has returned to its home… Thanks, Mike.
how true, Denise.
But the definition of weakness has to be studied before the truth becomes apparent!
Nice poem.
You’ve hit the nail on the head, John. Peacefulness does not equal weakness just as strength does not equal forcefulness… So therefore it is true that the meek will inherit the earth (taking ‘meek’ as meaning ‘peaceful’). Glad you liked it.
Denise, I had an e-mail about new day.
I can’t find the poem on your blog page.
And I can’t open the comments page this time..
Something is different this time.
Wonderfully, light and breezy …I immediately saw the little flame dancing …and Elton John’s, Candle in the Wind started playing in my head…
Here it is with a tribute to lady princes Diana
I don’t think anyone can mention ‘candle… wind… flame’ without thinking of Diana and, of course, Elton John. Lovely music, but very sad. Thanks, Paul, good of you to remind us.
