I write what I feel…

Drifting into Darkness

When the arms of darkness

Reach out to me

Offering comfort

In the raging sea

Soothing me, seducing me

How easy it would be

To just succumb

In the salty spray

And drift away

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  1. It can certainly seem that way at times, Adee – beautifully written

  2. Denise, I thought of the last moments of those lost from the Titanic.
Also of the saying “if it hurts, you’re alive”
    Nicely written, a little frightening.!

  3. Sometimes it seems so alluring, then you realise what you would miss.

  4. I so know this, adee. Beautiful poem 🙂

  5. Hey…you are bringing me down. 🙂

  6. Very sad but beautiful at the same time.
You should have been sleeping not writing but sometimes great posts come to mind in the darkness of the night…this is one such post

    • Thank you Patrecia, for your lovely words. I usually have a notebook and pen next to the bed when I sleep, but they’re of very little use when the electricity is off, haha. I still wrote in the dark, but what a job to decipher it!

  7. trust the arms of light instead

  8. true, but what would it really do…yes run to the light…this is a gentle voice…i like…smiles. perfect for today…

  9. Thank you Brian. I had it on my mind last night…

  10. Beautiful poem, Denise.

To sleep . . . perchance to dream. Oh, peaceful oblivion.

  11. Excellent poem 🙂 has a number of levels and I like the personification of darkness (though on first reading I was thinking of it as a real person – one of those people you love but logically know you shouldn’t because they are just plain bad). Good one adeeyoyo.

    • Haha, Gabrielle, I have known two of those in my life, funnily enough my first and my last relationship (does that say something about me?) and it was extremely frustrating to say the least! However, you’re right, that is not what I meant. Thanks for your visit. I will be over there again today to read your collection of poems… time ran out on me yesterday. Love your new gravatar!

  12. Another wonderful poem from a gifted artist.
    Thanks Denise.
    God Bless You

  13. Beautiful 🙂

  14. Thanks for the compliment Mark. 😀

  15. Oh yes. I totally get this. It would be so lovely to just drift away. Gorgeous!

  16. Yes, to just let go, so hard yet so easy… Thanks Selma!
