When the arms of darkness
Reach out to me
Offering comfort
In the raging sea
Soothing me, seducing me
How easy it would be
To just succumb
In the salty spray
And drift away

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

Denise, I thought of the last moments of those lost from the Titanic.
Also of the saying “if it hurts, you’re alive”
Nicely written, a little frightening.!

Sometimes the struggle can seem too hard, John, and there’s only one’s faith to keep one going.

Sorry Gran. I woke up in the middle of the night; wanted to write; no lights! Drat! 😉

Very sad but beautiful at the same time.
You should have been sleeping not writing but sometimes great posts come to mind in the darkness of the night…this is one such post

Thank you Patrecia, for your lovely words. I usually have a notebook and pen next to the bed when I sleep, but they’re of very little use when the electricity is off, haha. I still wrote in the dark, but what a job to decipher it!

Excellent poem 🙂 has a number of levels and I like the personification of darkness (though on first reading I was thinking of it as a real person – one of those people you love but logically know you shouldn’t because they are just plain bad). Good one adeeyoyo.

Haha, Gabrielle, I have known two of those in my life, funnily enough my first and my last relationship (does that say something about me?) and it was extremely frustrating to say the least! However, you’re right, that is not what I meant. Thanks for your visit. I will be over there again today to read your collection of poems… time ran out on me yesterday. Love your new gravatar!
