Tenuous shadows from the past
Forgotten faces, faded features
Curves and angles, hair in tangles
Only recognise the eyes
With expressions of surprise
Watching, waiting, anticipating
Hard to penetrate the gloom
Through the shrouding window drapes
Into the semi-darkened room
Where Death keeps watch
That no one dare
Invade the space
Beyond the veil

Beyond the veil… is where gloom turns to light, all is remembered, peace and joy abound.

I agree with you, Maxi, 100%. But now we’re prevented from seeing the other side.

I am visualizing, a dark and gloomy hospital room, where a patient lies (terminally ill) and only sees intermittently through medicated eyes to those who come to visit…And those who visit, wishing to be anywhere else…and remember how it was, not how it be. Yes, to me the veil, is that ceiling to floor (almost) sliding sheet of “privacy.” Nicely done Denise, you got me thinking…Not an easy task that!

I had no set idea in mind, Jack, this is just how the poem unfolded… and you ARE a thinker; your poems testify to that!

Beautiful, Denise.
Faces from the past do fade with age.

Yes, they do, Nancy, especially when you try to think of a particular feature…

It happens thus, indeed. And then, too, when one of the shadowy faces returns, still extant, one is amazed how the new image has also blurred!

The memory may be accurate, but the tempus that has fugitted changes the reality!

The beauty is that there are always new faces to be learned and befriended, Denise. Life moves on. Many faces in my life, too, are blurred. Some girlfriends I once had, I cannot now remember. June is glad about that!!!

We are always adding (or trying to add) to our memory bank, and sometimes life is kind in that bad memories also fade. I sometimes have a very selective memory – and not always from choice. I think I do tend to block the unpleasant ones! Give my best regards to June – I know I’d feel just the same, lol!

def felt…those shadows do seep back in, maybe not complete faces but enough for us to know who is there, come to play at our feelings…i think it is good we let go of some of these memories….

I think there’s a time and place, as the song says… but unhappy memories should take a back seat.

I know, Brian… but sometimes it works! Yesterday and today, we have a lovely bite in the air to remind us that winter has not left yet…

Memories. Sometimes good, sometimes a shroud in their own right.

Death can be scary, Gran, but it comes to all of us through the ones close to us at some stage; that’s life. Thanks for calling round. xxx
