I write what I feel…

HEAT

The beat of heat

From the sun

Caresses my skin

Draws out the sweat

Helps me forget

Winters chill

Unquenchable thirst

I need a draught

A refreshing waft

To shoot the breeze

And be able to breathe

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people!

  1. I can almost feel the heat, Denise. Which is good, because it’s freezing here, and raining.

    • I believe you Kate. My sister only just got her washing inside before it pelted down. We have been having a bit of a heat wave here and need rain badly. However I hear the rain is on its way, just in time for Friday’s cricket. Gee you can’t have everything can you?

  3. Oh Denise – the feel of spring is magic. I can just remember it!! Here we are watching the wind take the leaves from the trees, ready for winter.
But one thing is sure spring will rise again!

  4. From this piece I can envisage a sunnier day than we had! Still, the overcast was warm and the beach (at long last) much enjoyed by Pooch Pack and self.

    • You lucky devil, Col! It has actually been in the 30’s here, but rather overcast with warm, heavy air, not at all humid, but quite uncomfortable, sort-of blanket-like and quite unpleasant.

    • Thanks, Ruth. I’m sorry, but there’s no avoiding it, lol! But there are nice lightweight warm clothes around. I always buy end-of-season specials.

  7. I enjoy the arrival of warm weather far more than its departure. But don’t bake! πŸ˜€

    • Overall, yes, I think so Cin, but there are times I love that fresh, icy wind, or the cool breeze with the undertones of snow in the mountains. It is really so nice to have you back again… take care. πŸ™‚

  11. Obviously a woman who understands heat. Can’t say I’m looking forward to the Sydney summer – it is always exhausting. Very nicely done!

  12. Takes me straight to summer this one!
Isnt it funny how in winter we complain about how cold it gets, and how badly we want it to be summer
And in summer we complain about how hot and sticky it gets, and how badly we wish winter comes back! πŸ™‚ I get that every year. Alot less with summer though πŸ™‚
    Awesome poem Denise, πŸ™‚
