I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx
Excellent poem adeeyoyo – good structure and rhyme (I like the almost rhymes eg. forever, ether) and the image of the smoke disappearing, as the soul moves on is very effective.
So true Denise. From ether we come and unto the ether we go. Life is an enduring cycle of integraton and disintegration of elements. Smoke is a good symbol of our ehereal nature.

Certainly another way of looking at, ‘vanished in a puff of smoke’!

Another soul passed… You always imagine a way that brings my beloved David into each day.

Thanks Maxi for liking this. Smoke rising is a euphemism for the soul rising upwards…

I intended just writing about the nature of smoke, John, and the rest just wrote itself and surprised me.

How often that happens, Denise. I get the same result. The poem can take you where it wants to. Thanks again

I adore this, Denise. The ending reminds me of the Indian pyres: to everything there is a season….

Thanks, Gabe. I am a fan of almost rhymes, just have to be careful not to overdo them, lol!

Even smoke is made of molecules and atoms, and though we may no longer see it as smoke…the soul of it still lives.

I like the way you put it, Sunamu, ‘integration and disintegration of elements’. That sums it up very well. Thank you. I agree smoke is a good symbol.
