Sidey’s Weekend Theme – 04.11.2011: Anticipation
Anticipation
~
I felt the excitement of anticipation.
We were on the threshold of innovation,
About to meet aliens from a faraway nation,
Intelligent life from across the universe,
Intergalactic visitors with whom to converse,
Hold discussions and exchange information,
How much I looked forward to our communication
Prior to their elimination.

But, Sidey, isn’t that how Earthlings think? The Roswell incident still has us puzzled…

I just hope they’d be peaceful and ready to neutralise us if/when they arrive, Brian. 🙂

Well done . . . loved the surprised ending ~ although I rather hope that aliens can teach us how better to live in harmony. We are in need of a few pointers.

How many have we eliminated out of fear, though they came in peace?
A sobering thought: we kill because we think others are just like us.

Oh yes, Ruth, countries think that the best form of defence is offence (which it is), but are we under threat? That’s the question.

Well thanks a lot for pulling the rug out from under our feet.(nicely done) What got them, “Star Wars” technology, or did we just bore them to death?

I think the word ‘anticipation’ implies hopefulness [well, to me at any rate], but we can be taken by surprise, Kate.

OMG, Dee! How perfect a submission for the theme! I was getting sucked in, and then BAM! that prophetic ending – that is all too true and oh so chilling! Wonder if that will really be the way when (not if) this happens. . .our track record as a species is not too good – but I can anticipate and long for a better ending, right? 😆

Good ideas Denise. I would never have thought of such an original approach.
The last line is a sting in the tail.!

Haha – very good – I was just watching ET with Michael the other night and this reminds me of it – especially near the end when he almosts dies (‘what have they done to you’ the little kids says)
