What’s the use of a constitution
That’s the envy of the world?
(We are told)
There is no sign of restitution
When it can be chopped and changed
To hide fraud and corruption.
As soon as investigation is mooted
We have to change to right footed;
The media becomes the enemy
And fear rules the roost;
Fear the enemy will spread the news –
And other views –
Which will not amuse.
What is there to hide?
Is it more than meets the eye?
Is it too much to abide?
Even old comrades
Are becoming disillusioned
In all the confusion.

What is more sad is that a party that has a history of fighting injustice has done a 180…Destroying their own legacy.

I think they are struggling with each other, within the party. The Rainbow Nation under Madiba was so full of promise!

Something I don’t know about, Denise, but it sounds not a little fearsome.

It is extremely sad, John, that the infighting has begun and will get worse I think, although I hope not for all our sakes.

Great protest poem. The only way to beat them is to fight them. Ignore them, you and all South Africans, and they can’t win.

Thank you, Tilly. The problem is we have to fight apathy at the same time!

Very well put. The bill is not to protect sensitive military or security information, but to stop accusing fingers from being pointed where it is deserved that they be pointed.

That’s exactly the point, Col., thank you. The government has admitted that they have a problem with corruption, yet they still want to cover it up… if they can! We will never have a clean government if this is allowed.

true that…just recently the occupy wall street group locally was bulldozed in the middle of the night in direct violation of 2-3 local and state laws but then again the laws are only as good as the money that buys them…

The citizens must stand up for what they believe is right, Brian. If they fail to do so they will only have themselves to blame for allowing this new bill.

You take the bull by the horns there, Denise. Well done, I like your fearless writing (good poetry too!). And what Brian said (in comment): the laws are only as good as the money that buys them… – too true

Thanks so much, Ruth. You and Brian are right, they are bought – and I hate the corruption abounding in today’s world!

Unfortunately, it’s pretty much the same the world over at the moment. It would be great to know if they will ever start listening to the ‘little’ people instead of the bankers. I mean, just who is running things anyway? I reckon this would go down a storm at a slam poetry gig. 🙂

Secrecy in the hands of Power is the mother of corruption. What they ultimately seek is an endorsement for their corrupt practices. Except for very few subjects that jeopardise the internal security, there is nothing that could be kept away from people except their guilt. People should fight tooth and nail for such legislation.

Hear, hear, Sunamu. This legislation will give the corrupt members of our government and our society our blessings to continue defrauding our country!

Thanks for the quotes, Ben. They are all excellent. I think if we fail to stop this leglislation we will only have ourselves to blame. But the whole world is rife with corruption, not just my country.
