I write what I feel…

Just between friends…

.

let’s get together

for coffee and a chat…

chew the fat…

‘bout this and that…

have you heard…

not a single word…

can you believe…

too hard to conceive…

simply outrageous…

must be contagious…

lovely to bump into you…

so nice to see you too…

do it again sometime soon…

how ‘bout tomorrow afternoon…

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people!

  1. I remember when I was considerably younger, my mother and her village friends used to get together for just such events.
    Thank you Denise.

  6. The thing I like about this piece is its neutrality vis a vis judgement.

Yes, it *is* more common among women, but I have witnessed men doing it too on occasion. 🙂

The other thing this recalled for me was:

“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.”

I’m not sure who coined that bon mot, but it’s for sure judgemental. 😀

  9. That’s one thing I miss terribly about being here. I used to get together with my friends for lunch every week at least once. I know nobody here. 😦

    • That is sad, Liz. I’m sure it won’t be long before you make friends though. I was in much the same boat here but not any more. They are there, but just shy sometimes.

  12. Darling, Denise. Reminds me of the chats I used to have with my Great Aunt . . . who was interested in anything that interested me.

Especially when we shared it over a cuppa tea. 😀

  13. Having just returned from an entire weekend of this loveliness, I can enthusiastically say that I do this whenever I can, Denise. People who matter are worth taking the time.

  16. Love the fast paced nature of the poem which really picks up on the way women talk to each other, sometimes 😉

    • Yes, waterfall of words… but that’s not so often. I often think that happens when the women have been starved for conversation and they can’t get it all out fast enough, lol! Like opening the sluice gates of a dam, hahaha!

  17. When you have no agenda to start with, all conversations begin with such trifles. It’s a way of bonding. Sometimes the sweet nothings add great flavour to the emptiness. Nice Denise.
