Wings of the Wind

On the wings of the wind

I fly through the sky

and the wings of the wind

raise me up to the high-

est point of the blue

so I’m nearer to You.

 .

I’m removed from the cares

and my earthly fears

when I float in the rare

ambience of the air

while my dream is refined

on the wings of the wind.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people!

  2. Aah, the wind blowin’ through my hair, cooling my brow, whispers in my ear, soothes my thoughts, carries the wild bird’s song…

He has given us a wonderful blessing.

  4. Lovely thought. We have similar mental metaphors – in my novel which will hopefully come out at long last after frustrating delays, I use ‘riding the Winds’ as a metaphor for for spiritual lines of force which can lead either to The Centre of Being, or to The Void.

    • If I could have my life over, Brian, I would definitely learn to fly – an aeroplane, lol! Lovely holiday with family on Christmas day! Hope yours was also good.

Noticed Denise how nicely the word “rare” sits here suggesting rarefied air? When you float above like that everything … including dreams… get refined.

  12. This makes me feel like I could fly. Often I am envious of the birds and their ability to soar. What must it be like? Beautiful poem!

    • I am so glad I gave you that feeling, Selma. I really long to be able to fly, soar, float or glide within the air ‘waves’! Who knows, one day we may be able to do just that, haha – IF we live long enough! But things are ever-changing and progressing…

    • I’d miss hands so much though. Yet a bird can build a nest with only a beak. Amazing!
