SMILE

.

A ray of sunshine from your face

Lights up the room and spreads

Where’er it lands leaving a trace,

A tangle of golden threads,

Embracing all around as one.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people!

  1. Some people have that certain Je ne c’es quoi, what ever that means..lol
There does seem to be a special source of light or life that glows within some people, especially those in love..or are pregnant..or both.
    Super poem.

  4. What a lovely picture, Denise. I enjoyed this so much.
And how true. I found myself substituting “My” for “your”, and the poem had a lesson for me

  10. I just had to respond to this post! I chose the name 1smiles at a difficult time in my life. It was an inspiration to pull myself back into the light. Ever since then 1smiles has been attached to everything I touch. It’s even on my car license plate!

Your post will leave a trace of your inner sunlight on us all! Thank you.

  11. I am trying to radiate joy and enthusiasm more and more these days despite melancholy and depression. We do transfer energy to others and why let them absorb my gloom? Keep that external light aglow despite an inner darkness.

    • Many people get down and depressed over this holiday season, Carl, including me. It may be a simple thing like a chemical imbalance that a short term course of pills, or even vitamins, could rectify. If it continues I think perhaps you should see your doctor, ‘cos why suffer unnecessarily. Please don’t think I’m being interfering and/or ‘bossy’. God bless you, my friend.

    • Bwahahaha, Gran. And what does that tell you? You don’t smile enough – that’s what! Let them think you’re a half-wit for a day or so, haha, but smile all the while! Then they will begin to wonder what you’ve got up your sleeve… 😀
