I write what I feel…

My Poetry

.

It has always been my policy

To write my own kind of poetry

That which comes from my heart

And not my head

No form nor style

Except for a haiku now and then

(where I stayed awhile)

And I was at ease

Until I became trapped

Ensnared by a set on the internet

Discussing correct ‘form’

Which made me drown

In the ether of my discontent

(apologies to Will Shakespeare)

To say nothing of my ignorance

Hundreds – no, thousands of emails later

I have managed at last to free myself

What relief – ‘twas beyond belief…!

Rules are writ to be broken

Like words are wrote to be spoken

We are not so many peas in a pod

Whose poems send me off to the Land of Nod.

  2. Yes, Denise. Conformance kills creativity.
When I write, it comes out in different ways according to different ideas.
    Well said.!

    • I like the way you put it, John, and that’s also what is wrong with so-called ‘education’ nowadays. OK put everything in slots, trays, files, whatever one wants to call them but only up to a point.

  4. I agree with Hopestar. Love your poetry. There shouldn’t be any rules for free expression using words. Carry on regardless. 😉 xx

    Always be yourself
For if you are not yourself
    You will be no one

  9. I firmly believe we should all write from the heart about subjects that move us. Otherwise, what’s the point? Hear hear….

  13. Indeed. Who is the master, the writer or the words? The trick is, of course, to break the rules in such a way that it is clear it is being diddicated with deliberate intent – and if I want to say deliberate intent is to consider a matter in a canvas structure, so be it!

  14. Always write your own, Bukowski wrote “when the talent wanes the form appears.”

  15. we have to write with our own voice…no matter where it takes it…and what form…there is freedom in that from trying to live up to someone elses notions of what we should be…
