DUSK
Shadows crept under the door,
across the floor,
consuming the light
and all things bright,
colour vanished,
banished from sight,
only
the lonely
shriek of a plover
ripped the blanket of the night.

Lovely words Denise, you said it right about the plover ripping the blanket of the night – worded perfectly!

Is it only me, then? I read this as more grim than lovely. More haunting, but maybe it is just me :).

It was written as a warning of what lies around the corner, perhaps. So it’s not just you at all. 😮 I was so glad that I could comment on your blog at last. Thank you.

there is beauty in shadows as there is in light… your words observe the interplay brilliantly & without judgment – i like that

Thanks for your comment, Ruth. I thought I showed a hint of bias with the word ‘consumed’. I’m glad you liked it though.

Denise, What a joy to see your poem, and to know that you are OK.
I haven’t been putting up poetry so much lately because the muse is not driving me – I have been very tired looking after June, but she is now recovered and has the reins back! What a relief.
Thanks for the lovely poem and the picture with it.
happy Christmas and a good new year.

I am so pleased to hear that June is well again for both of your sakes, John. Take things easy until you are both completely back to normal. I do believe our bodies let us know when we need rest. Thanks for reading my post and Christmas blessings with much love to you both. Denise
