I write what I feel…

Anticipating Autumn

Summer’s leaves begin to fade,

Yellowed in the last hot sun;

Morning air is cool and fresh,

Autumn’s slow advance begun.

Growth slows, awaiting frost,

Nights grow longer, colder too,

Lengthened evenings by the fire

Give more time to spend with you.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  1. Thank goodness no more humidity.

  2. Whether the more time with one another is good or bad, you leave to the individual to decide! 🙂

  3. you are entering into my fav season…the slowing…the cooling…the dying….but also that last brilliant moment of beauty right before…our mountains ring with color in autumn…

  4. We’re just coming into Spring now, Denise, – I had just the same feelings last autumn. Such anticipation. And the great thing about Autumn was that June was getting better after 6 months of trial.

  5. Very, very nice. Autumn poems are classics, and yet I still can’t get enough of them!

  6. Aah, snuggled by the fire.

  7. Ok.. I see your feeling it as well… just wish I could express it as well as you do…

  8. A lovely twist with the final line. (And we not also moving into Autumn? I like the delicate allusion,)

  9. Thanks, Ben. We all move into Autumn – sooner or later… 🙂

  10. I am so sorry that Summer will be something of the past soon!… but I guess I will HAVE to embrace Autumn!
