I write what I feel…

Pavement Special

.

Soulful eyes don’t tell lies
Piteous pleading
Watching waiting
For a kick read my eyes
Poised to run on the turn
Cigarettes BuRN
I have learnt people hurt

Not all are cruel
They are fools
I will teach you how to trust
Feed you with love
So you can rest
I’ll be your guard
We’ll stand against
Our common foe
As one…

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people!

  4. A couple of days ago we were eating in an open area of Granada, when a small dog appeared. He/she was a beautiful small animal, but had a large patch of mange on her back. She was looking under tables for scraps to eat.
Do you know, I could have picked him/her up and brought her home to look after! But no chance, from a different country because of quarantine laws!
Your lovely poem has just taken me back there, Denise.
    Thank you.

  5. And still one gets so many excuses for human beings who build their pathetic little egos by abusing dogs, and instead of ripping their throats out the dogs wait vainly hoping for some affection.

  6. Heartbreaking Denise, these poor animals can’t tell the good guy from the bad until it’s too late.
