I write what I feel…

The Drive

.

Deep within our consciousness,

Hidden away from prying eyes,

There is a drive to drink and eat,

To stay alive and to compete,

While our bodies are driven,

No matter how much we are given,

To desire more, more, more

Food, wealth, prestige, power

As we aim to gain beyond the same

And when our race is run,

When our lives are done,

The rabble will scrabble

To take their due –

And the wheel spins on.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people!

    • It can and does sometimes happen, Brian. People can become addicted to acquiring money and possessions at the expense of being able to relax and enjoy what they have.
