I write what I feel…

Hangman’s Noose

Hangman’s noose

Hanging loose

Out of use

Gallows tree

Standing free

In the shallows of memory

Twitching, turning

Eyeballs burning

Lynch mob cheering

What bloodthirsty forebears some of us had (and still have, perhaps).

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  1. Beautiful but frightening…

  2. Maybe the physical tree is not used anymore, but the lynch mob mentality still exists!

  3. Raised in the deep south I am fully aware of this mentality, Denise.

  4. I agree with pussycat44 – the tree is gone, but the lynch mob still exists!
It is now trial by media – or lynch by media.

  5. On the other hand, the lack of effective deterrants is reviving the lynch mob mentality. They decide that if the State won’t do it, they’ll do it themselves.

    • That is also very true, Col. I think you have it between Pussycat, John and you, but is it related to bullying or to fear, I wonder… or a bit of each?

  6. pretty sickening…esp if you ever see picks of a lynching…yes things were a bit backward…in some areas they still are…
