.
She was a rich bitch
Fair-haired blue-eyed golden girl
Daddy’s pearl
He was working class
Bold as brass
Kiss my ass
Love strikes out of the blue
And it targeted those very two
Daddy roared NO NO NO
Mother said rather listen to your father
Then they called the preacher in
Sunday school teacher in
And since the boy was born in sin
His sanction was impossible
Absolutely impractical
So that’s the reason why
There they lie…

Your poem tells quite a story with just a few words!

def an intriguing story…born in sin is a hard line for me, arent we all? is it only because he was of a lower class as well…leaves me with questions….

Could be that his mother conceived and gave birth out of wedlock. or that he was of a different caste or religion to the girl…

I was disgusted by the preacher/teacher siding with the parents, Ben. 😦

Yes, it was at the beginning of the poem, John, then it took a turn to seriousness…

In spite of the deftly done lighter touches at times, I take this story seriously. The ‘holier than thou’ attitude, leading to tragedy.

Social outcast meets society girl and together they face societal bigotry. A familiar tale and very well told.

Some countries are still very class-conscious or hold strong religious bias, Jake. 😦
