Adeeyoyo's Blog

I write what I feel…

Remember the Days…

…when we played games
And had fun in the sun,
When respect was earned:
Teachers, doctors, politicians and parents
Stood apart from the rest
And did their level best
To serve the community with impunity.

Where have those days gone?
Respect is no more, gone for good
(Actually, gone for bad).
Greed has taken over this world
And, where some had a calling,
Money now is more appealing
And jobs are selected for the earnings.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  1. yeah, respect is not a value these days…if it is we are going about teaching it the wrong way…
we have pretty heavy handed with it in our school…it does not cut it out but…

  2. This has sent me working on a poem, for which many thanks. Beside which, I like it on its terms. Blessings. When I finish my own piece I shall acknowledge your inspiration. Watch this (that? 🙂 ) space.

  3. So, so true Adee, and it’s so sad. The world is not the same place anymore 😦 it seems everything is measured by money and greed.

  4. So sad, but very true, adee. You expressed your thoughts very well in this poem.

  5. Added to which, incumbents are selected politically rather than on any kind of merit.
