I write what I feel…

Sand Castles

A day at the sea
My sister and me
As excited could be
With our buckets and spades.

Down to the water’s edge
Carrying our pails,
Trying not to slop,
Back up the slope.

We pack the sand
As tight as we can.
My turret’s askew
But the best I can do.

And now for the moat
We fill it with water,
Step back to look
And what do we see?

The ocean’s encroached
With the incoming tide,
So to avoid a calamity
We must build a wall with alacrity…

Ha, too late, too late,
It’s breached the castle gate
And we watch the structure
c-o-ll-a-p-s-e into naught…

The Painter

fingers of blue,
a purple slash
kissed with yellow
over a narrow wrist,
cONcentration filled his face
as the sea took life
beneath his brush
and his bush of hair
athwart his face,
streaked blue,
being pushed aside,
a hindrance to his view,
totally unaware of my stare,
not knowing I was there
he was lost in his world,
locked in the inspiration
of creation.

The Painting

Subdued colours

Weave the painting

Slightly out of focus

In the smoke-filled room.

People twirled

In another world

On the spinning floor.

Only the music

Holds them together

Tight against each other

Until… until… slowly

The magic of the music

Fades into the night.

Last Song of Summer

Summer sings a sad farewell
As her colours begin to fade;
The rich verdant greens
Of lawns and trees will soon
Begin to change, as autumn
Hovers in the air and the breeze
Whispers that fall is near.

The bright begonias nod their heads
In their sunny, sheltered beds
Knowing full well their time is short,
But content to spread their blissful
Cheer to all who pass them by.
Again, farewell to summer as she
Travels north where welcome arms
Anticipate her with delight.

God Lives

God lives in the very heart of man,

In each and every part of man,

He knows our views and deeds

Even as we think or act,

He is the kernel of our being,

The epicentre of our soul,

And in our lives he plays a role

Just because He loves us all

And we ignore him at our peril.

Love & Light

When I really need your love

O Lord,

When I really need your love

My God,

When I really need your love

I lay my head upon your breast

And You will do what You do best ~

Every care will disappear

Because you are there for me.

Lord of Love, Lord of Light

Your love shines through the darkest night,

When the world becomes too much

You complete my soul and make me whole.

From a pat to a slap
From a word to a curse
Abuse creeps like a shadow
Unseen at first.

Thus emboldened it grows,
Audaciously hiding its face
Beneath comical deeds
Or pretentious affection,

Assured that the lies of the past
Will still hold fast ~
For as long as you believe
You are beloved ~ you will forgive.

Time Used…

Time used to be

When we could sit

And reflect on past history;

A lifestyle of gentle ebbs and flows.

How I miss those early years,

Those simple, unpretentious folks

With clean, naïve and artless jokes

When crime was crime, make no mistake

And sentences carried out to break

The notion that one could escape

The law.
