.
From a pat to a slap
From a word to a curse
Abuse creeps like a shadow
Unseen at first.
.
Thus emboldened it grows,
Audaciously hiding its face
Beneath comical deeds
Or pretentious affection,
.
Assured that the lies of the past
Will still hold fast ~
For as long as you believe
You are beloved ~ you will forgive.

Excuses abound during the reign of terror.. First offered for the abuser (“Oh they didn’t mean it, they were drunk.” Or “they said they were sorry. and it won’t happen again” etc.) And later by the abused, who keep going back for more, until serious and/or severe damage has been done..
This is just an observation of mine developed over years, and thank God, not from personal experience. Thanks for jump-starting the grey matter this morning. Denise.

Denise, I love the courage and originality of topics you take on. Yet all, in the real, real world, straight to the heart.
