I write what I feel…

Winter’s Almost Here

Winter's Almost Here

Winter’s Almost Here

Winter’s Almost Here

Striptease trees whose leaves

Fall on semi naked ground

Auburn has darkened to shades of brown

While yellows and reds have all but gone

The long days of summer topped and tailed

Tho’ what is left is still warm as toast

Where the wind cannot reach us

Straining to grasp us as we linger

In our shelter under the wilting sun.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  1. This is a beautifully descriptive poem, adee. I see you just commented on my old blog. Can you follow me on my new one instead? 🙂

  2. and here on the other side of the world,
everything is coming back to life…winter a memory slowly fading…

  3. Nice words, nice photo.

  4. And so the seasons change as time goes on,
as do our lives evolve in cycled turns.
Until bleak and brown do once again
give way to green upon the ferns.

    Have a great winter Denise.

  5. Empathies, Adee – a dusty, blustery time is upon us.
