I write what I feel…

The whole world is at war
the cost too high to-tally
time is everything and nothing
our future so unsure
as petty thieves make hay
even in the pouring rain

We rise today but what of tomorrow
random names on bullets
not to mention hit lists
deflection changes direction
and the pathway is clear
for everyone to fear

Senseless shooting for a phone
(is it worth a living being)
so much crime that cops can’t see
the forest for the single trees
when it threatens all generations
death can cause such devastation

  1. random names on bullets….scary isnt it…
ugh. what is our world coming to? it only seems to get worse
    day after day.

  2. This is a brilliantly written truth…

  3. Material possessions have become the end all and be all of society TV ads for luxury cars, watches, sneakers and yes, the latest and greatest cell phones have lead the younger generation to believe that they are entitled to any and all of those things regardless of how they are attained.. Sad commentary indeed. My condolences to your niece and her in-laws.

  4. What a tragic story…your anguish comes through so clearly in the poem. My condolences to the entire family.

  5. Some beautifully crafted phrases emphasise the ugliness of the topic. Nice work indeed.

  6. Do I detect a whiff of despair?

    • Despair is right. I thought muggings for cell phones had run its course, but now that cell phones are like mini computers they are more sought after than ever.
