I write what I feel…

City-life

Post No. 837

.

City-life

.

The smooth soothing hum

Of traffic through the suburbs

.           The lifeblood of evolution

.           All rushing to get things done

.

And everyone working to plan

An art-aerial view enabling all

Who follow the map to obey

.           The rules and not go beyond

.           The lines drawn on the road

White lines yellow lines

Broken lines and token lines

.

.           .           And heaven forbid a brake

.           .           Or jam— traffic sticking fast

.                       As long as it lasts

Fingers drumming on the wheel

.           And then it starts

.           BEEP-BEEP BEEP-BEEP

.           And the 4WD’s baritone

.           BOOB-BOOB BOOB-BOOB

.

Middle fingers waving

Open mouths silently yelling

(Aircon always too hot – or too cold)

.

.                       Hesitation or trepidation

.                       Cannot keep the meeting waiting…

.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people!

  1. Ha. The city moves at a different pace. It can be chaos, but a beautiful chaos at times too.
Keeping your cool is not always easy cause there are plenty of crazies out there on the streets and the rules
of the are road are much different.
