This Plastic World

.

We live in a plastic world

Where discards outweigh utility,

Where garbage pollutes air, land and sea

And everything is temporary;

Nature must take a back seat

‘Cos man has learned to manipulate

Greens and meat and all we eat.

Plastic, cardboard used once

Then tossed away. Society tells us

How to think, act and re-act,

Fit the parameters or be a mis-fit,

Clones of idEAlised/idOlised

Specimens of humanity don’t stir the pot,

Blow the snot where it lands –

Out of sight, out of mind.

‘Twas a Wild Wind

.

‘twas a wild, wild wind,

a wily, capricious

wind from the west,

its mischievous

spirit wavering, teetering

‘tween destruction and

obstruction – construction

not an option!

thrust and pause,

howling and moaning,

keening and droning

until it slowed to a sighing

as daylight lifted its mood

and its temper subsided

which was all to the good.

Mugging

.

The whole world is at war
the cost too high to-tally
time is everything and nothing
our future so unsure
as petty thieves make hay
even in the pouring rain

We rise today but what of tomorrow
random names on bullets
not to mention hit lists
deflection changes direction
and the pathway is clear
for everyone to fear

Senseless shooting for a phone
(is it worth a living being)
so much crime that cops can’t see
the forest for the single trees
when it threatens all generations
death can cause such devastation

God’s Window

.

Looking through God’s window
At the earth below
Wide-eyed at the beauty
Lost to man’s neglected duty
Sorrow for the morrow
When we’ll have to beg and borrow
Food and drink and air to breathe

Nothing saved ~ we disobeyed
Destroyed our earthly paradise
Right before our very eyes
Care-less, thought-less, heed-less greed
And avarice beset our needs
Is it too late to turn the tide
We have nowhere else to run and hide…

Hurtling Through Space

.

Well here we are, the human race,

Quite unaware we’re hurtling through space,

Out of control destroyer of the universe,

Teetering on the brink, about to tip into the pit,

Killing the world that sustains us.

Just who do we think we are?

.

Tin gods, rusted, crusted, know it alls.

God forgive us, lead us, show us right from wrong

Because when all is said and done

We are nothing, lower even than the larvae

Of a blue-arsed fly*. Help us O Lord and open our eyes

That we may see our effect on nature ever more clearly.

27 Sep 2012 … The first evidence for the metaphorical ‘blue-arsed fly’ in the OED’s entry comes from a 1970 quote attributed to the Duke of Edinburgh.

Remember the Days…

.

…when we played games
And had fun in the sun,
When respect was earned:
Teachers, doctors, politicians and parents
Stood apart from the rest
And did their level best
To serve the community with impunity.

Where have those days gone?
Respect is no more, gone for good
(Actually, gone for bad).
Greed has taken over this world
And, where some had a calling,
Money now is more appealing
And jobs are selected for the earnings.

A Sick Country

Edited
.

Are we too blind to see

Symptoms of a sick country:

Crime gets bail in place of gaol,

Prisons are full to overflowing ~

Enough said !

Justice and the Law

Are often at odds

But cash paves the way ~

Life is cheap and death is cut-rate,

Fraud and corruption rule,

Sex is the best ~

Porn and abuse never go to waste,

Cater to every taste,

Girls and boys ply their tricks, BUT.

What kind of man gets his kicks

From raping babies, hidden away

From others in dark corners?

This land, OUR land, is sick!

A Few Greedy Men

.

Earth is shaped by the elements

With all that man requires:

Food for his body and beauty for his soul;

But power is what he most desires ~~

Untold wealth at the expense of health.

Earth’s delicately balanced symbioses

Lie on the paths of man’s DEstruction

Where every one will suffer

For lack of CONstruction.

Will FRACk be the last straw on the camel’s back?

By the way, I’m not at all happy with the title – any suggestions?

Earth Today

.

Our earth ails, pales

deforestation rules –

trees ripped from the soil

while the desert encroaches

inch by scorched inch

leaving space in the race

for man-made rocks, structures

to house, plots to feed

ever-expanding populations

ugly erections pumping thick

black smoke into the air –

the air that we breathe –

ban cigarettes, but leave

toxic contaminants from exhausts

from chimneys made ever higher

sending pollution into space

ha! pretending that there’s

a difference in quality

and what goes up stays up

never comes down in air or rain

to be seen or breathed

again…
