City-life

Post No. 837

.

City-life

.

The smooth soothing hum

Of traffic through the suburbs

.           The lifeblood of evolution

.           All rushing to get things done

.

And everyone working to plan

An art-aerial view enabling all

Who follow the map to obey

.           The rules and not go beyond

.           The lines drawn on the road

White lines yellow lines

Broken lines and token lines

.

.           .           And heaven forbid a brake

.           .           Or jam— traffic sticking fast

.                       As long as it lasts

Fingers drumming on the wheel

.           And then it starts

.           BEEP-BEEP BEEP-BEEP

.           And the 4WD’s baritone

.           BOOB-BOOB BOOB-BOOB

.

Middle fingers waving

Open mouths silently yelling

(Aircon always too hot – or too cold)

.

.                       Hesitation or trepidation

.                       Cannot keep the meeting waiting…

Rain

Post No. 810

.

Rain

.

I kneel on the grass

with the rain on my face

rivulets run

trickle down

between my breasts

parched as the ground

the earth and i

bone dry under the sky

drops melt, meld into one

vanish into cracks

fissures in the rocks

my tears disappear

consumed by the air

and the pain…

washes away in the rain

Clouds

.

They sail on high and fill the sky

With shapes asunder, large and small,

Harbingers of rain, or thunder,

Giving relief to the thirsty earth.

.

They move without a single sound

As shadows creep across the ground,

Separating, pooling, as the wind blows,

Journeying as far and wide as the sky goes.

Voices

.

Voices surround us,

Some loud and clear,

Some so soft you can barely hear,

As nature speaks

From mountain peaks,

From lakes and seas,

From plants and trees,

From birds and bees…

If you open your heart

You will surely hear

All things from earth

To the heavens above

Speaking to us in the language of love.

Listen to the Trees

Listen to the Trees

Hush…
Do you hear the trees
Blowing in the breeze,
Bowing to the wind?

Shush…
Voices in my mind
Calling out my name
Always sound the same?

Mother o’ mine
Your voice is clear
Only the words I cannot hear,
Blending and bending with the leaves
Rustling and jostling on the trees.

White Noise

.

Lying peacefully in the dark

…Soaking up the white noise,

Listening to the earth breathe,

…Softest rustling in the trees,

Gentle twitters of the birds

…As they settle down to sleep,

The sharp crack of a small twig

…Magnified a thousand-fold

In the stillness of the night.

Earth Today

.

Our earth ails, pales

deforestation rules –

trees ripped from the soil

while the desert encroaches

inch by scorched inch

leaving space in the race

for man-made rocks, structures

to house, plots to feed

ever-expanding populations

ugly erections pumping thick

black smoke into the air –

the air that we breathe –

ban cigarettes, but leave

toxic contaminants from exhausts

from chimneys made ever higher

sending pollution into space

ha! pretending that there’s

a difference in quality

and what goes up stays up

never comes down in air or rain

to be seen or breathed

again…

Dolphins

Dolphins

Sleek, shiny, iron-grey,
Gliding through the sea
And surfing in the waves,
Beautiful creatures of the deep.
Who could not but admire
Their joyous displays?

Man’s friend of their own freewill,
By some accounts,
They should beware
Of Man’s intentions:
Selfishness and greed
His main objectives!

He is killing the earth
Piece by piece –
First animals, birds and trees
Were victims of his greed,
Now fish and mammals of the deep,
By poisoning the seas.
