Escaping the Abyss

Post No. 904

.

Escaping the Abyss

,

A bottomless pit

Is where I’m at

A deep well leading down to hell

I claw feverishly at the wall

And cry for help with a soundless voice

Bounded by silence

Black as pitch, absorbent hush

Rain runs barefoot down my neck

Soothing all pain along my back

I feel fingers reach down my arm

Leading me, guiding me

Upward, onward, safely

Far, far away from harm

Perfection

Post No. 902

Perfection

.

We cannot conceive,

Are unable to perceive,

His perfection…

As His spirit fills our souls

And His inspiration fuels our goals,

We are humbled before Him ~

Our King;

Father of the universe,

The revelation of whose love

Holds us in awe, spell-bound,

Wanting nothing more

Than to praise and adore

Our Lord.

GOD revealed

Post No. 900

.

GOD revealed

.

The decision was always His to make

The steps were ever His to take

And Jesus Christ was born of man

God revealed in His own plan

In flesh and blood he could relate

He gave His all for love of us

Suffering torment on the cross

He was no figment to still man’s need

Of a saving grace or creed

But the unadorned and newborn babe

Come to earth to conquer death

Hail to Thee O King of kings

All hail to Thee O Lord of lords

Our glorious God is now revealed

Mercy

Edited

.

O God, King of all kings,

King of all things under the sun

Since life begun,

You mould me like clay

Of which I am made,

But what have I done ~

I am but a tool for Your use,

A nail in Your cross,

The wood for Your saw,

And I always fall short.

Perfection is Yours for the taking,

Yours for the making.

I fail to preach what You teach,

Help my soul to reach,

To touch the hem of Your cloak

To provoke Your healing hands.

What is Beauty?

.

Everything can be reduced

To a maths equivalent,

A chemical blueprint,

But beauty is lost along the way.

Give me, if you may,

A formula for splendour,

For magnificence,

A delight to the eye and

Sustenance for the soul.

.

An impossible task, I say,

To encapsulate beauty,

Put it behind bars or

Chain it and hold it captive

For our admiration and approbation,

Because it is a living thing,

From day to day unfurled,

Living on love, shrivelling with hate,

God’s gift to our world.

Your Light

.

a bright light shines through the darkness

warms my heart and cossets my soul

i feel you here lord, i feel you here god

your spirit calms me and keeps me whole

my faith grows stronger with each passing day

i will hold on forever through the rain and the storm

i will never let go and will come to no harm

Evensong

.

The skirt of evening falls

gently enfolding hills and dales

in purple haze; these are the days

where twilight wraps branches as they bow

and the flames of the setting sun

dive headfirst into the golden meadow.

The morrow waits just o’er the hill

with bated breath, beyond the heath,

and God keeps watch both day and night

to see His will be done.

Sunday

.

Dong….. dong….. dong…..
In the distance of my mind
I hear the church bells ringing
Dong….. dong….. dong…..
The deep melodic tone, calling, calling
Mellow, hollow, resounding
In memory’s echo chamber

.

Hurry, scurry, we can’t be late
Children stumble at a half-run
Biggest in front, smallest behind
One on a bicycle drags his foot
Slowing himself in order to wait
While the last little boy kicks stones
On the ground with his boot

.

Dong….. dong….. dong…..
In the distance of my mind
I hear the church bells ringing
Dong….. dong….. dong…..
The deep melodic tone, calling, calling
Mellow, hollow, resounding
In memory’s echo chamber

God’s Window

.

Looking through God’s window
At the earth below
Wide-eyed at the beauty
Lost to man’s neglected duty
Sorrow for the morrow
When we’ll have to beg and borrow
Food and drink and air to breathe

Nothing saved ~ we disobeyed
Destroyed our earthly paradise
Right before our very eyes
Care-less, thought-less, heed-less greed
And avarice beset our needs
Is it too late to turn the tide
We have nowhere else to run and hide…
