Sweet Dreams

Post No. 789

Sweet Dreams

Babies’ breath, talcum powder,
Eiderdown, a fluffy cloud,
Floats on high in a clear blue sky.
Innocence and purity
Should grow into maturity,
But, no, he may lack integrity.

Evil creeps in through the door –
What on earth is he waiting for?
Takes advantage while he can
To profit from the greed of man.
The sweetest dreams have been and gone,
Lost, unfounded, one by one.

But redemption is there within his reach:
Listen to the pastor preach,
Take heart and rue the day
When Satan came and hoped to stay.

Innocence

Innocence

Innocence

*Edited

Innocence

A fluffy little bundle of white,
Head up and tail held high,
Tripped confidently across
The street between the cars,
Drivers unable to see.
I held my breath as wheels
Passed him by on either side
But his luck failed at last
And he went tumbling head over
Heels as the cars went past…
Innocence goes hand in hand
With trust and disappears
Sometimes s-l-o-w-l-y, sometimes
Gently, but oft times too-fast-to-see,
Ground under the wheels of life.

Delicate and airy, gaura is known as ‘Whirling Butterflies’, inspired by its dainty, dancing butterflylike flowers. It has long reddish stems that bear loose panicles …

Innocence Departed

.

I don’t believe

…that children have no conscience

I don’t believe

…that children don’t know right from wrong

So innocent and trusting

that the world will leave its muddy footprint on

I do believe

…that children come from God

…that their first lies are caused by fear

Huge eyes are filled with wonder

Before the cracks in trust appear

Before they learn to hide their face

Before the mask falls into place

Innocence

Toilet training
Two innocent pups
Taking them outside
On to the grass
Using the word
Decided upon
Pee, wee, widdle or piddle
They smelled the grass
And smelled the flowers
They smelled the soil
And chased each other
Across the lawn
Round and round
Up and down
Eventually giving up
I went indoors
To the toilet myself
Sat on the seat
And glanced up to see
Two little angels
Squatting on the toilet floor
And looking up at me
With big grins and innocent eyes
Waiting for praise
Parents take heed
Your children will do as you do
And not as you say!

I don’t know whether anyone else has had this experience, but I found it so comical and so frustrating. There they were, trying their utmost to please me. But they wouldn’t go to the toilet outside – only when I went and WHERE I went.

What Happened?

What Happened?

What happened to the sweet innocence of youth?
Where did it go – that newly-opened bloom?
The trust we had has withered and died
And the faith we felt, eroded away with the sands of time.

Would that we could return to those simple years,
Would that we could go back to how we were…
But alas the tears we shed have dried
And our hearts have turned to stone.
