Dearth

Dearth

.

I pace back and forth

Watching the clouds in the sky

Blowing hither and thither

Holding on tight to the rain

And I feel their pain

Squeezed, squashed,

Contained under pressure

Unable to explode ~ for now ~

A few drops the day before

Evaporated as they touched the earth

Sucked upward before they

Could slake the thirst of the soil…

And the clouds scud away

Lightning, thunder threaten

To tear them asunder

But no, the time is not right

The clouds are not ripe

And all we can do is pray

For a soft, gentle rain to soak

The dryness away on another day

Lightning

* Edited

.

A silver thread ran through the wind

Winding and twining round and round;

Freedom at last

From a muggy past

Where the air lay heavy and still

And he was trapped as it overlapped

Until, bursting with joy,

He cartwheeled into the clouds

Scattering flaming colours,

Washes of silver and gold,

As he zig-zagged his path

With a tinkling laugh,

Way up high across the sky,

Leaving his grumbling shadow to follow.

Approaching Storm

.

There’s a fine mist
kissed by the snow on my head
while brain fried, cotton-wool dyed
birds fly high in the sky;
they screech through the leaves,
crash into branches of trees
and winter’s dry twigs
break as they shake to the ground.
Darkness descends from above,
and the air quivers… lightning shivers…
the birds calm down, they make no sound,
waiting… waiting… for the thunder
to rupture, to fracture, the peace.

Storm over the Savannah

A beautiful sky after a storm Pictures, Images and Photos

Storm over the Savannah

The sky was black and red.
Black clouds on the horizon
Were suddenly overhead,
And, as the thunder rumbled,
So the lions grumbled,
And the cracked earth trembled.
Lightning split the sky,
Simultaneous roars rent the air,
And the rain,
When it came,
Was like a waterfall from heaven.

For all of their roaring, growling, and ferociousness, lions are family animals and truly social in their own communities. They usually live in groups of 15 or more animals called prides. Prides can be as small as 3 or as big as 40 animals. In a pride, lions hunt prey, raise cubs, and defend their territory together.

The Storm

white-lightning Pictures, Images and Photos

The Storm

Clouds massed on the horizon,
Barely visible to the eye,
And suddenly the wind
Arrived out of nowhere,
Howling, lashing the trees,
Branches whipped the air,
Curtains blew, doors banged,
Then it was gone as fast as it came.

The clouds sucked the light
From the midday sun;
Stillness, darkness, quiet.
Suddenly lightning ripped
The dark sky apart
Like a Ming vase broken
Into countless little pieces
On a black tiled floor.

When the thunder crashed
The building vibrated
As compressed air shook
And the whole world waited
For the next act in the show.
Another lightning fork
Split the sky asunder
Chased by the snarl of thunder.

He sat in his room
Listening to the storm.
The staccato cr-a-a-ack
Of the lightening tearing the sky,
Random flashes
And thunder crashes
For a moment took him back
To his time in Iraq.
