Post No. 837

The smooth soothing hum

Of traffic through the suburbs

.           The lifeblood of evolution

.           All rushing to get things done

And everyone working to plan

An art-aerial view enabling all

Who follow the map to obey

.           The rules and not go beyond

.           The lines drawn on the road

White lines yellow lines

Broken lines and token lines

.           .           And heaven forbid a brake

.           .           Or jam— traffic sticking fast

.                       As long as it lasts

Fingers drumming on the wheel

.           And then it starts

.           And the 4WD’s baritone

Middle fingers waving

Open mouths silently yelling

(Aircon always too hot – or too cold)

.                       Hesitation or trepidation

.                       Cannot keep the meeting waiting…

Life Lines

Life Lines

I must confess I was
Quite unconscious of my looks
In my growing years to adulthood;
I was slim, fit and healthy which was fine as it stood.

I woke up one day to see
A stranger reflected back at me.
Who is that, I enquired of myself.
Is it possible – can it be – that old woman is me?

Shock set in and disbelief,
Years of pain have taken their toll,
Years of hardship with small relief,
My face is a map of my journey through life.

We see ourselves with different eyes,
Perhaps it’s not as bad as it seems –
Add some makeup and colour the hair,
Affirm your blessings, and live your dreams.
