Heart Beat

Post No. 840

Heart Beat

.

Everything in this world

plays its own music

or at least a beat

the mountains shout out

and the echoes play tag

with flowers cut from scraps

in mother’s rag bag

a stitch in time she’d say to me

saves nine as i clambered on her knee

a stitch in time… mends a broken heart

and the cape robin on my window sill

sings his soul out fit to burst

filling mine to overflowing with His song

Voices

.

Voices surround us,

Some loud and clear,

Some so soft you can barely hear,

As nature speaks

From mountain peaks,

From lakes and seas,

From plants and trees,

From birds and bees…

If you open your heart

You will surely hear

All things from earth

To the heavens above

Speaking to us in the language of love.

Listen to the Trees

Listen to the Trees

Hush…
Do you hear the trees
Blowing in the breeze,
Bowing to the wind?

Shush…
Voices in my mind
Calling out my name
Always sound the same?

Mother o’ mine
Your voice is clear
Only the words I cannot hear,
Blending and bending with the leaves
Rustling and jostling on the trees.

The Street Beggar (Repost: 04.06.2010)

The Street Beggar

On a cold wintery morning
Under the weak watery sun
Mother and child shivered together,
On a day barely begun.

They waited on the traffic isle
For the rush of cars to start,
Hoping for some charity
To relieve their starving hearts.

A few cars passed, too fast to see,
Then, bumper to bumper they came and went,
Blinkered people safe and warm,
Snug in their cocoons.

Mothers’ Love

Mothers’ Love

The plaintive cry of a baby,
Helpless after birth.
The mewling of a newborn pup
Struggling to stand.

The protection of the mothers
Caring for their young,
Defending them from harm
As best they can.

They would give their lives to save
Their brood from certain death,
But will the young survive
And will they thrive?
