I write what I feel…

Winter Arrives

.

With the dawn came the cold;

The light of day has given way

To dripping nose and frozen toes.

Gone are the gold and russet leaves,

Skeletons are the remains of trees,

Arms and fingers held up high

Reaching beseechingly to the sky

Diamond chains hang from taps

Reflecting light from a watery sun

Whose weakened rays lack strength

To warm our cold, cold earth

As we wait for the world to turn.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  3. Do beeches reach beseechingly? 🙂
    We are about to have a good opportunity to chill out, indeed.

    • Do beeches lose their leaves in winter and do the branches reach up and outward? ie Do they feel the cold?

      I have been chilling out unfortunately, BUT yesterday I found all my missing socks so I slept soundly and warmly all night! It’s no fun Col waking up at 2am, with freezing feet, to feed the cat.
