Yellow Lioness
Yellow Lioness
In the yellow grass
Muscles tensed
Attention focused
Sight – or smell –
Another meal

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

Nice thought – but I think mostly the females hunt for the males. 🙂 I mean for the food for the males, haha!

I think not much, other than hunting and sex 🙂 I have been so impressed to see them close up – beautiful and lethal – and ALL muscle! AND GINORMOUS!

This reminds me of a preview I saw about African lions in the theater last weekend. It looks to be an amazing movie showcasing those wonderful cats.

I love them to bits, BV! Did you ever see the short movie about Christian, a lion raised by two guys in a London apartment. Check out YouTube – it used to be on there too.

What an incredible photo. Your poem has captured so well that sense of expectation that must fill the head of the lioness as she waits. How amazing to see such a beautiful creature in the wild like that. I would be so excited if it were me. But also a little scared!

We have the most amazing ‘lodges’ for holidays where you get taken on game drives and see the wild life. The lions are usually kept in a separate part of the farm and roam relatively freely there. It is wonderful to be able to get close to the lions, but I was amazed to see how much bigger most of them are to what I expected. There are also places for day trips – own car drives and maps of where and when the lions will be fed. Trucks are driven loaded with carcases which are thrown to the lions. Quite scary! 😦

It would be nice to have one, I agree, but it would be cruel to take away its freedom.
