I write what I feel…

What lies Beneath

.

What lies beneath the surface?

Do I need to know?

Lead me by the nose

Or drag me by my toes?

.

What lies beneath the surface?

Is it born of love?

I cannot choose to be

Blind to what I feel.

.

What lies beneath the surface?

Is it what I’d like to see?

Be it contempt or scorn,

Just do not pity me.

I am a middle-aged South African woman, living in Johannesburg. I began writing poetry towards the end of May 2010. I love animals – sometimes more than people! I am back after a break. Thanks for still being here, if you are! Missed you! xxx

  1. Sometimes gold, sometimes rust,
    sometimes good, sometimes bust,
    sometimes right, sometimes wrong,
sometimes a hole, sometimes a bone,
    sometimes better, left unknown..

Hoping all is well with you Denise, long time missed.

  3. Love this, Adee. “Lead me by the nose, or drag me by my toes,” sounds tortured. Hope no-one is doing that to you. 😉 xxx

  4. What lies beneath the surface? What ever it is we best find out about it because that’s from where most of life’s instructions are stored.

  6. I related it to seeking our destiny. Sometimes we fear what we know to be our path. But life will get us there, leading us by the nose or toes..

  9. Compassion, empathy and pity are entirely different matters. The first two, I desire. Not the last.

  10. Wonderful to see you back. I couldn’t get past your security to comment on your blog. I think there’s a problem – although it might be me! 😉

  11. These are distrusting, disturbing thoughts, Denise. I feel there is happiness when one trusts and hopes.
    A very thoughtful piece.
    Thank you
