Storm over the Savannah
The sky was black and red.
Black clouds on the horizon
Were suddenly overhead,
And, as the thunder rumbled,
So the lions grumbled,
And the cracked earth trembled.
Lightning split the sky,
Simultaneous roars rent the air,
And the rain,
When it came,
Was like a waterfall from heaven.

For all of their roaring, growling, and ferociousness, lions are family animals and truly social in their own communities. They usually live in groups of 15 or more animals called prides. Prides can be as small as 3 or as big as 40 animals. In a pride, lions hunt prey, raise cubs, and defend their territory together.

I understand it’s parched or flooded and never just quite right for a time of some balance. Is that correct?

Tropical and subtropical savannas are classified with tropical and subtropical grasslands and shrublands as the tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas, and shrublands biome. The savannas of Africa, including the Serengeti, famous for its wildlife, are typical of this type.

Thank you, John. That is exactly how the rain sometimes comes down in a tropical storm – in a sheet of water.

Oh yes, that area can be very dry for long periods, so the rain is always very welcome…
